Ginger

Ginger is very popular in many Eastern countries. Its presence graces many delicious dishes throughout Asia especially in Thai food. The edible part of ginger is the rhizome or underground stem of the plant Zingiber officinale. Studies found that it helps to reduce inflammation, nausea and vomiting during pregnancy and many other beneficial effects. I actually use ginger to help aid in digestion as well as relieving the pain of upset stomach. Ginger is also usually eaten with sushi which adds flavor as well as helping with the digestion. Sushi after all contains raw fish. The most important news concerning ginger recently has to do with a claim that ginger could be used to fight ovarian cancer. This is of great interest to me not only because I am a woman but because gingers are a part of my diet. A study conducted at the University of Michigan showed that some compounds in ginger have the ability to inhibit the growth of cancer cells. Ginger is also valuable because it does not have many bad side effects. The studies are in progressed so more results will be available in the future.
