Contrasting Food Matters and Removal of Radionuclides
Two scientific articles were read and analyzed. It was determined the articles differed in writing style. The first article, Removal of Radionuclides in Wastewaters Utilizing Potassium Ferrate(VI), is by Michael E. Potts in which he evaluates the effectiveness of potassium ferrate as a wastewater treatment chemical. Upon Reading this article it is evident the target audience is perhaps someone specialized in the field of radionuclides as it pertains to inorganic chemistry. Food Matters, the second of the articles and a chapter in The Genie in the Bottle written by Dr. Joe Schwartz, provides a wide array of facts about food without going into too much detail. The differences between the two can be seen upon first glance. Michael E. Potts divides his article into a highly conventionalized, scientific article format. Furthermore, he provides an experimental procedure to obtain the results and concludes with a reference section. Dr. Joe Schwartz does not write his chapter, Food Matters in a highly conventionalized scientific article format. Instead it reads more like any standard novel with few citations and a lacking experimental section. Broadly speaking, Food Matters targets a much broader audience while Removal of Radionuclides in Wastewaters Utilizing Potassium Ferrate(VI), is targeted to a much more specialized audience.
