Incredible Weight Loss Story

A story recently aired on CNN that really captured my attention. I felt it was so astonishing that I am compelled to share it with the rest of you. It is a story of a woman, Takala Hilton, who had been told the better half of her life that she needed to lose weight, but the best advice her doctors could give her was to go on a diet, not quite the advice you enjoy paying hundreds of dollars to hear. Weighing in at over 300 lbs Ms. Hilton was on the verge of death if she did not begin to lose weight some how. She claimed to have tried every possible diet imaginable, and she insisted that her weight in no way matched her eating habits. However, she also has diabetes and high blood pressure which caused over 30 doctors to attribute her weight gain to those disorders and classify her among the enormous population of obese individuals in America. It was one doctor in Tulsa Oklahoma who actually listened to what her patient was saying and chose to believe her and look for another explanation.

Ms. Hilton says she owes her life to this doctor, Jennifer Cameron, because it was she who discovered the true reason for Ms. Hilton's tremendous weight gain. Ms. Hilton was carrying inside of her a 93 lb benign tumor that doctors estimate had been growing since early childhood. Just a month ago Hilton had this massive tumor removed and the surgery went flawless. Her doctors are also confident that this removal will have beneficial effects with her diabetes and blood pressure.

This story really demonstrates the doctors need to really listen to what your patients tell you. Granted, doctors go to school for a very long time to be able to do what they do, but sometimes you have to realize that the person who knows their body best is the patient. If any of you have had similar experiences with medical care I would love to hear the story.
