Recipe for Dduk Bok i

2 lbs. rice cake (Oriental market)
1 cup water
2 Tbsp. sugar
2 Tbsp. soy bean sauce
2 Tbsp. red hot pepper paste
1 tsp. sliced garlic
2 scallions, chopped
Cabbage
Onion
lamen noodle

Put the rice cake in cold water for about 15 minutes to soften. Put 1 cup water in large pot. Add sugar, soy bean sauce, red hot chili paste and garlic. Bring to a boil and boil for about 5 minutes. Put the rice cake in the pot and continue to boil for 10 minutes. Add lamen noodle, chopped scallions, cabbage and onion and continue to boil for 2-3 minutes. You can change the amount of hot pepper paste.

Many of Korean foods use red pepper paste as spice.Red peppers contain some 20 times more vitamin C than apples.Capsaicin in red pepper prevents the destruction of vitamins in the body, helps to maintain appropriate metabolism and enhances blood circulation. Also, beta-Carotin in red pepper nurtures resistance against respiratory diseases and cancers.

Although red pepper and its capsaicin have been proven to be good for health, it is not desirable to have a lot of red pepper sauce. Being stimulated by hot and spicy food may aggravate or even cause such ailments as an irritated bladder and urinary incontinence.
