The Tesla Roadster

On July 19, 2006 at Santa Monica, California, Tesla Motors unveiled the Tesla Roadstar, which is a fully electric sports car. Prototypes are claimed to be able to accelerate from 0-60 mph in about 4 seconds and reach a top speed of over 130 mph. The car will be powered by lithium ion batteries, providing a range of 250 miles on a single charge.
Efficiency is set at 133 Wh/km or 135 mpg. It is a two-speed sequential manual with a max rpm of 13,500 and a max new power of 248 hp (185 kW). Service Centers for Tesla Roadster are planned for:
Los Angeles, California
San Francisco, California
New York, New York
Miami, Florida
Chicago, Illinois
Current pricing is set for the 2008 Tesla Roadster base model at $92,000. Fully loaded, the Roadster costs around $100,000. Tesla Motors' "Signature One Hundred" first set of cars sold out late August 2006, and the second hundred sold out in October (of 2006). Reservation orders are made on their website: http://www.teslamotors.com/

That is simply wonderful! I would buy the car if it costs below $30,000 but since it's like above $90,000 I don't think I could afford it. It's such a shame that environmental friendly cars are always so expensive. You would think that with the brain power of the human race we could come up with a car that does not pollute our world. Your article reminds me so much of the issues presented in "Who killed the Electric Cars?". It's the same concept that big businesses (oil companies) would rather pollute our world than to lose profit. So why do you think the these cars are so expensive? Is it because of the battery?
