Two Different Perspectives

After one of my friends found out I was taking a course on Food Chemistry, he asked me for any information regarding food. "Food matters" was perfect for him as he was able to read it and not be confused by the science in the article. What he found particularly interesting was the fact that the author suggested changing our diets as our ancestors did in order to combat illness (instead of using medicine). Yet we both found the fact that magnesium sulfate being absorbed in the water makes the water sweet interesting.

However unlike me, my friend, who is a creative writing major, found the author's attempts at humor unnecessary and awkward. He also said he would try purchasing flax seeds, bilberries, and cherries to include in his diet. He felt that there wasn't any harm in including these foods in his diet.

It's interesting to notice how the literature is taken by two people with different majors. I found the reading engaging and tended to be interested in the science of the foods. My friend found what the effects of the foods and how one should approach consuming these foods to be the most important part. He also commented on the quality of writing as he thought it was annoying.

That is interesting. Scientists must have the same sense of humor. Reviews online suggest that scientists find his books entertaining while some others complain about his style.

I think it nice for those of us who usually read science from a serious angle.

I am glad you shared the article with your friend.
