While I highly doubt it will "save" the U.S. economy it is offering a stimulus to our declining state of economic affairs. Having recently just talked about scientists role in advocating I thought it would be interesting to see what other roles science is playing in shaping our policies and state. Nanotechnology is being seen as one of the biggest technological breakthroughs of the 21st century. Business leaders and scientists alike are saying that nanotechnology will offer new jobs based on the new technologies as well as open up many new niches in the market. Nanotechnology is already seeing its way into clothing, cosmetics, washing machines, and sports equipment. The uses of the technology range from trivial things such as wrinkle free clothes to life altering advances such as mini vehicles to deliver drugs to specific parts of the body.
Under Bush’s administration, Congress has created the NNI (National Nanotechnology Initiative) which they plan on using to increase the federal funding for nanotechnology based research. Obama plans on expanding on this by increasing funding to the energy sector of the research. So far 10 billion dollars of federally funded money has been used for nanotechnology.
