German researchers performed a CT scan on the famous Egyptian treasure, Nefertiti. The scan found that the Nefertiti bust has two faces. They found a stone carving underneath the external stucco layer of the face. Researchers had previously thought that the internal stone layer was there for support of the bust. The differences between the two layers are the creases at the lips and a bump on the nose of the internal stone layer. A previous CT scan was performed on the bust in 1992, but it was not detailed enough to distinguish between the two layers. As for an explanation for why there are two layers on the bust is still unknown.
